Two UT head football coaches have been named the national football coach of the year. Bowden Wyatt was named in 1956 by the American Football Coaches Association. Phillip Fulmer was named in 1998 by the American Football Coaches Association, the Football Writers Association, the Maxwell Football Club, and the Sporting News.

The National League of Nursing began naming Academy of Nursing Fellows in 2008. Tami Wyatt was the first UT faculty member to be inducted, in 2012. She was also a 2012 Harvard Macy Health Education Professions Educator Scholar.
