Knoxville Dragoons

The cavalry company raised in Knoxville to fight in the Mexican War included several UT students. From the large number of volunteers from Tennessee in the Mexican War came the nickname “The Volunteer State.” The Knoxville Dragoons’ uniform is the uniform of the UT Color Guard.

Knoxville Gaming Bureau

The Knoxville Gaming Bureau is a group of the UT Knoxville’s student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery. The KGB provides opportunities to play multiplayer games of any type. Open to UT faculty, staff, and students and to the general public, the KGB sponsors open gaming nights on campus and tournaments.

Knoxville News-Sentinel Bridge Tournament

In January 1932 the Knoxville News-Sentinel, along with the student newspaper (Orange and White) and the Interfraternity Council, held a contract bridge tournament for all fraternities of the university. The Sigma Alpha Epsilon team of Hugh Faust and Wesley Patton won the tournament, defeating the Beta Alpha Omega team of Ralph Still and Herman Gouse.

Korean Conflict Casualties

Russell Bristow Jr. (’47) was the first UT graduate killed in the Korean Conflict. He died August 5, 1950. Also in 1950 (September 5) Alfred O. Hutchinson, member of the UT football team and alumnus, was killed.
