Ann Tanner Taylor, Knoxville native and journalist for National Public Radio, received the inaugural Notable Woman award at the 1996 Charter Day banquet for her contributions to broadcasting. First Panty Raid

On a balmy September Sunday evening in 1952, men students conducted a “raid” on the women’s dormitories, seeking trophies of underwear to be thrown from the windows. Fourteen students were arrested but were released to the custody of Dean of Students Ralph Dunford.
