Employee Relations Advisory Organization

An Employee Relations Advisory Organization was established in November 1972 to facilitate communication between nonexempt employees and the campus administrative leadership. The present system of Employee Relations Organizations and Councils has evolved from that establishment.

Employee Team Award

In 1996 Chancellor William T. Snyder initiated an Employee Team Award to recognize exceptional teamwork by employees. The first recipient was the Evening School staff, for their efforts in reorganizing the Evening School from a unit of Continuing Education to one within Academic Affairs.

End Zone Design

In 1974 Chancellor Jack Reese initiated an energy conservation program as part of the overall effort to reduce costs. Energy Conservation Committee/Coordinator

In July 1977 Chancellor Jack Reese appointed a campus energy committee to establish a campus-wide energy policy. A full-time energy conservation coordinator, 1971 UT graduate John Stockhausen, was hired July 1, 1977, in the Physical Plant Department. Chairman of the 27-person committee was Frank Davis, assistant director of the Transportation Center.

Energy Hotline

In fall 1980 UT instituted an energy hotline for students, faculty, and staff to report instances of energy inefficiency. The Energy Conservation coordinator staffed the telephone number (974-5354).

Engage Program

The College of Engineering redesigned the freshman curriculum into a multidisciplinary, integrated series of learning experiences in 1999 and named it the Engage Program. The program is an engineering-fundamentals curriculum built on teamwork in project-oriented, hands-on activities in graphics, statics, computer programming, and dynamics. Engineering Diversity Programs include both outreach programs and the Diversity Engineering Scholarship Program. In 1973 the College of Engineering established the Minority Engineering Scholarship Program, which had an initial class of 17 students. Fred D. Engineering Short Course

Engineering first offered a short course from January 4 to February 27, 1915. The course included the study of mathematics, drawing, civil engineering, and highway engineering. The course was provided to suit the needs of those too busy to attend the regular session. No examinations were required, and the course was free.
