In 1996 the Olympic canoe and kayak-slalom competition of the Atlanta games was held in Tennessee on the Ocoee River. UT Medical Center’s aeromedical service was asked by federal and state agencies to provide helicopter emergency services during the event. One of the LIFESTAR helicopters was stationed at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah, Tennessee, during the events to allow the helicopter to respond quickly.
