A computer system developed at UT and Oak Ridge National Laboratory provided state-of-the-art security information for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. The “Police Command and Control System” was developed in conjunction with the Atlanta Police Department by ORNL, the UT Energy, Environment and Resources Center (EERC), and the UT Transportation Research Center. A UT support team of Bob Hunter (ORNL), Dean Miller, Don Hamlon, and Gary Boruff (EERC) assisted in operating the system during the games. The system was designed to keep track of police and emergency workers and to spot trends in daily traffic congestion.
