The football locker room in the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center was named for Tommy Bronson and Bill Johnson in August 2007. It was replaced by the Anderson Training Center’s 7,000-foot locker room, which opened in 2012.
As members of the 1955–57 teams, Bronson and Johnson helped lead UT to a 24-7-1 record, a 3-0 record against Alabama, two bowl appearances, an SEC championship, and a no. 2 ranking in 1956. Bronson earned his degree in business administration. After military service, he had a successful career in the construction materials industry, serving as president and CEO of several corporations. Johnson, a standout at the guard position, earned all-SEC and All-America honors in 1957. He was also named an Academic All-America. He was cocaptain in 1957. After graduating with a degree in business, he served in the army and later as president and vice-chairman in a successful banking career. He served on the UT Board of Trustees. Both men made noteworthy contributions to the Athletic Department’s STEP-UP campaign for athletic facilities.
