Peyton Manning, who wore Number 16 as quarterback on the UT football team, donated $3.5 million to the Tennessee football program and the Peyton Manning Scholarship Endowment in April 2015. His gift honored two individuals, Gus Manning and Carmen Tegano. Gate 16 was named the Gus Manning Gate, honoring Gus Manning, age 91, who served in the Athletics Department for 64 years, serving in positons ranging from sports information director to associate athletics director.
