Founded in 1992, the NCCS is a managed activity of the Advanced Scientific Computing Research Program of the Department of Energy Office of Science and is located at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Its purpose is to provide the most powerful computing resources in the world for open scientific research. The center is host to the Cray XT5 Jaguar supercomputer, first ranked number one on the top 500 list of the world’s fastest supercomputers in November 2009.
