Krutch Park is correctly Charles Krutch Park. It is named for its benefactor, who willed more than $1 million to the City of Knoxville to establish a downtown park. Charles Krutch, TVA photographer whose photographs were heralded by the New York Times and displayed in the Museum of Modern Art, spent his lunch hours at a brokerage for many years, buying and selling stock. Upon his death in 1981 at age 94, his financial success was first revealed in the reading of his will. He had no connection with UT—in fact, he did not finish high school.
