Twice a year, the Office of the Provost hosts, a “Pecha-Kucha Powered” social gathering designed to highlight a cross section of the intellectual life of the university. Faculty in various disciplines make presentations in a Pecha-Kucha Powered social gathering. Mic/Nite was begun in 2011. Pecha-Kucha is a lecture format in which presenters show and discuss 20 images for 20 seconds each. The images automatically forward while the presenter talks. The first faculty member to present at Mic/Nite was Kenton Yeager, a professor in the theatre department. Harry S. “Hap” McSween, professor of earth and planetary sciences, made a memorable presentation. McSween’s presentation on NASA’s Dawn mission consisted of 20 metrically correct, humorous, but scientifically accurate limericks.
