Mark Beal Banks served as head coach in three sports at UT: football, 1921–25; basketball, 1921–26; and baseball, 1921–26. He played college football at Syracuse from 1905 to 1908. Before coming to UT, he had coached football at Ohio Wesleyan and football and basketball at Ohio and Drake. He was replaced in 1925 as head football coach by Robert R. Neyland. In 1926 he was replaced as basketball and baseball coach by W. H. Britton and William S. Harkness, respectively. His overall record as head football coach was 62-49-6, and his record at Tennessee was 27-15-3. His overall basketball record was 112-113, and his baseball record at Tennessee was 38-42-3. After leaving UT, he coached at Knoxville High School (which paid more than UT).
