On December 15, 1973, Tennessee defeated Temple University in the finals of the Volunteer Classic basketball tournament in Stokely Athletics Center by the score of 11-6. The game holds the NCAA record for fewest points scored by both teams. The NCAA record for fewest points allowed since 1938 also goes to Tennessee (tie) for holding the Temple Owls to a mere six points. The score at the half was 7-5. Introduction of the shot clock prior to the 1985–86 season guarantees that these records will stand.
