Today’s Webster C. Pendergrass Library had its beginnings in 1880 with the establishment of a library to serve the disciplines of agriculture, horticulture and botany in the new Agricultural Hall (later, Morrill Hall) on the Hill.
The library moved to Morgan Hall when it was completed in 1921. The much-expanded library moved to its present location in 1978, with the opening of the Veterinary Hospital. It is the only agriculture library and the only veterinary medicine library in Tennessee. It is a branch of the UT Libraries.
In 1984, the same year it joined the other UT Libraries on the GEAC automated circulation system, it was dedicated as the Webster Pendergrass Library honoring UT’s first vice president for agriculture, Dr. Webster Pendergrass, in recognition of his 43 years of distinguished service to the institution.
