Lambda Theta Alpha, the first sorority created specifically to serve the needs of Latinas in the United States, was established in 1975 at Kean University in Union, New Jersey. The Gamma Gamma chapter was chartered at UT on April 28, 2001. The colors are burgundy and gray, and the mascot is the Lambda Lady. Its philanthropy is St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The sorority is a member of the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations Inc.
