In 1933 a local fraternity of Jewish students, Beta Tau Delta, was formed with the goal of affiliating with a national fraternity. In March 1935 its 13 members accepted a charter and were initiated into Kappa Nu, the national Jewish fraternity. Kappa Nu merged into Phi Epsilon Pi in 1961, and Phi Epsilon Pi became part of Zeta Beta Tau in 1970, the year Zeta Beta Tau became inactive at UT.
