In its 1969 celebration of Old South Festival, members of Kappa Alpha Fraternity set off a cannon charge that blew out three windows at the Alpha Tau Omega House and almost all the front windows of the Kappa Alpha House. The three to four pounds of gunpowder explosion were reportedly heard as far away as Cumberland Avenue. The charge was also too much for the cannon, which did a complete flip, breaking off one of its wheels.
