The women’s intercollegiate rowing team took part in the Head of the Tennessee Regatta (among other competitions) in its first year as an intercollegiate sport (1995). A “Head” race is the typical fall regatta, in which boats cross the starting line at full speed at roughly 15 second intervals. The course usually involves navigating three miles of river, around bends and under bridges. The Head of the Tennessee Regatta is held in Knoxville on Fort Loudoun Lake.
