Hired to direct the athletic program at the YMCA at the university, H. K. Denlinger captained and coached the first intercollegiate football game of UT (1891). He had been a player on the Princeton football team in 1890. He weighed 160 pounds and played halfback in the first UT intercollegiate football game, which was won by Sewanee 24-0.
