Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center

When it opened in 1997, the Goodfriend Tennis Center contained coaches’ offices, locker rooms, four tennis courts, capacity for five hundred fans, a reception area, and a concession stand. Both the men’s and women’s intercollegiate tennis teams use the center. Made possible through a gift from Robert Goodfriend, then president and CEO of Goody’s Clothing Stores, the center hosted the 1998 SEC Indoor Championships and has played host to UT’s annual O’Charley’s Tennis Classic since 1998.

A phased expansion of the center began in May 2010 with the major aspect of the $3 million initial phase the expansion from four to six indoor courts. Other Phase I improvements included major renovations to the coaches’ offices and team training rooms, a new players’ lounge, and new locker rooms for both the men’s and women’s teams. The remainder of the upgrade included expansion of the outdoor stands at court level, a new three-story clubhouse and press box, a new hospitality area, and a new strength and conditioning area.
