The UT chapter of the Golden Key International Honor Society initiated its first members on February 28, 1980. The society was founded in 1977 at Georgia State University. Golden Key recognizes students solely on the basis of their academic achievement, and its membership is restricted to the top 15 percent of college juniors and seniors.
