Frances A. Schofield

1907–1976

Dr. Schofield joined the university’s faculty of the Nutrition Department in the College of Home Economics (later, the College Human Ecology and now part of the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences) in 1948, where she served until her retirement in 1972. She also held a research appointment in the Institute of Agriculture.  She was a nutritional biochemist with research interests and publications in amino acid metabolism, mineral metabolism, and the nutritional needs of preadolescents. She helped to develop the doctoral program in nutrition and served on the planning committee of the Southeastern Cooperative Research Project to study metabolic patterns in preadolescent children.  Her intellectual contributions to the life of the university have been recognized by placement of a plaque in her honor on a faculty study.
