Foundation for Interior Design Research and Education

The Foundation for Interior Design Research and Education (FIDER) is the accrediting agency for interior design programs. The Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC), the American Institute of Interior Designers (AID), and the National Society of Interior Designers (NSID) established it in 1970. (AID and NSID merged in 1975 to form the American Society of Interior Designers.) In 1984 the interior design program (then in the College of Home Economics) became the first collegiate program in the nation to be accredited by this foundation. The interior design program was transferred to the College of Architecture and design in 1996.
