The football ticket lottery system was implemented during the 1998 football season to eliminate the need for students to camp out overnight to be in line for good tickets for popular games. Instead of camping out, students lined up to scan their identification cards, a process that assigned them a lottery number. Winning numbers were computer selected, and ticket winners were notified through the student newspaper and by a sign posted outside the ticket office. The practice of camping out, however, continued until 2004 when the Student Affairs Division banned it.
