Football Games on Sundays

Tennessee has played seven football games on Sundays, four of them pre- or post-season special games, and three regular games. The first and latest two games have been regular season games. On December 3, 1905, UT played Grant College (now UT at Chattanooga) as the finale of the 1905 season. UT lost 5-0. On September 5, 2004, UT played University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) in its season opener, moving the game from Saturday to take advantage of national ESPN2 coverage. UT won 42-17. On Sunday, August 31, 2014, UT played Utah State on the initial weekend of the SEC television channel, winning 38-7. The other games were December 13, 1981, (UT 28, Wisconsin 21) at the Meadowlands in the Garden State Bowl; August 26, 1990, (UT 31, Colorado 31) at Anaheim California in the Disneyland Pigskin Classic; and January 2, 2000, (UT 21, Nebraska 31) at Tempe Arizona in the Fiesta Bowl. UT has played on all days of the week. The 2004 and 2014 games were in Neyland Stadium.
