The Food Technology Club was established at UT in 1968 with the expectation of receiving a charter from the national Institute of Food Technologists in 1970. The Institute of Food Technologists was founded in 1939. The name of the club evolved to Food Technology and Science Club and then to Food Science Club. The club became a member of the student division of the Institute of Food Technologists in 1982.
