First Student Loan Fund

In 1902 Professor Charles Ferris, chairman of a student aid committee of the faculty, appeared before the board of trustees to urge establishment of a student loan fund. As working capital, the trustees allocated the outstanding notes for student fees and room rent. Ferris and the trustees believed that approximately $500 of this was collectible. A year later a bequest from Maude Powell firmly established a student loan fund.
