First Choir Appearance at Carnegie Hall

On June 11, 2007, a 108-member UT Choir, drawn from members of the Concert Choir, the Women’s Chorus, the Men’s Chorus, the Chamber Singers, and the UT Singers, presented a 7:00 p.m. prelude concert to the 8:00 p.m. New England Symphonic Ensemble’s performance and formed the core of a combined choir that performed Schubert’s Mass in G with the orchestra. The concert was in the Isaac Stern Auditorium, Ronald O. Perelman Stage. Angela Batey, UT Music Department, selected the music for the prelude concert, directed the choir, and made the arrangements after an initial contact by Carnegie Hall representatives.

Russ Hollingsworth and Brad Lyle, members of UT’s Video and Photography Services Department, produced a documentary video of rehearsals, the performance, and the New York experience. That video won a silver Telly Award, the highest award a video can receive.
