In 1998 UT signed two-year contracts with Athletics Directors Doug Dickey (men) and Joan Cronan (women). The contracts included a provision for extensions of an additional six months. Salaries of the two did not change under the new contractual arrangement, and the documents provided that if UT wished to buy out either contract, the university would pay only the annual salary multiplied by the time remaining on the contract. The contracts also set forth the duties and responsibilities of the athletics directors.
