Fifteenth Street (now James Agree Street north of Cumberland and Phillip Fulmer Way south of Cumberland) included until 1968 a half-block dogleg, which caused a major bottleneck for vehicular traffic and a dangerous pedestrian crossing. In 1968 UT worked with the City of Knoxville, partially funding the straightening of the intersection. The Seventeenth and Cumberland intersection had been straightened with the creation of Volunteer Boulevard.
