F. Ann Draughon

Ann Draughon earned the BS in microbiology (1973) and the MS in food science toxicology (1976) at UT, and the PhD from the University of Georgia in 1979. In 2007 she received one of 10 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring. The presidential program, which carries a $10,000 award, is funded and managed by the National Science Foundation to identify outstanding efforts that enhance the participation of groups (i.e., women, minorities, and persons with disabilities) that are underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Draughon, a professor in the Department of Food Science and Technology, specializes in food-borne illnesses. In 1995 she served as the first female president of the International Association for Food Protection. She and UT alumna Saundra McGuire were two of the ten 2007 recipients of the presidential award.
