Executive Dean of Students

In April 1962 Dr. Herman Spivey, vice president of Academic Affairs, announced a major reorganization of Student Affairs, which was suggested by a self-study performed in the summer of 1961. A new position, executive dean of Student Affairs, was created and was to be filled by Dr. Charles Lewis in July. Lewis was to coordinate student services being offered through the Dean of Students Office (Dean of Students, Dean of Women); director of Auxiliary Enterprises (university center, housing; and food services); general secretary of the University Christian Associations (YMCA, YWCA); director of the Student Clinic and Hospital; and Guidance Counseling and Testing Services (located in the Admissions Office). Lewis came from a similar position at the University of North Dakota.
