The university Entertainment Committee was established in 1937 to bring persons of international note to the campus. It was composed of administrators, faculty, and students. In its first year, it brought singer Grace Moore, Dave Rubinoff (violinist), and the novelty piano team of Fray and Braggiotti. The effort was so successful that University Concerts was formed to concentrate on bringing internationally acclaimed performers and lecturers to the campus.
