Dr. Stansbury joined the faculty of the College of Engineering in 1947. He was designated Alumni Distinguished Service Professor in 1962. He retired from the faculty in 1984. He gained recognition as a specialist in metallurgical engineering and authored or coauthored some 35 articles in professional collections and journals. He won teaching awards from the American Society for Metals (1954), the Western Electric Company (1967), the College of Engineering (1977), and Phi Eta Sigma (1977). He was elected a fellow of the Metals Society in 1974. He received the College of Engineering’s highest honor, the Nathan W. Dougherty Award, in 1984. He served as university macebearer in 1981–82. His intellectual contributions to the life of the university have been recognized by placement of a plaque in his honor on a faculty study.
