Dr. Kent joined the faculty of the university’s College of Home Economics (later Human Ecology and now within the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences) in 1935 to initiate the Department of Home Economics Education. She served as head of the department from 1935 until her retirement in 1960. She was a specialist in home economics education and a consultant to the US Office of Education. Prior to joining the university faculty, she was Arkansas state supervisor of home economics from 1924 to 1935. Among her major publications are A Study of the Results of Planning for Home Economics Education in the Southern States (1936) and Materials for Evaluation of State Plans for Vocational Education (1937). She was also the author of professional articles on nutrition education and school lunch programs, and she developed evaluation criteria for home economics programs. Her contributions to the intellectual life of the university have been recognized by placement of a plaque in her honor on a faculty study.
