The College of Engineering has presented the Nathan W. Dougherty Award since 1957 to recognize engineers who have brought honor and distinction to the college through their achievements and who have made significant contributions to the engineering profession in Tennessee through their professional activities. The first recipient was Thomas Hampton Allen.
