Dr. Stollar joined the faculty of the university’s College of Education in 1963 and served as head of the Department of Educational Leadership from 1971 until his retirement in 1986. He became nationally recognized for his work in public school finance and education law, and he published widely in these fields. Among his books are School Business Administration (1973; revised, 1984) and Education and the Law in Tennessee (1971). He served as consultant to school systems in Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, and Delaware and participated in statewide studies of education in six states. He was executive secretary of the Tennessee Association of School Business Officers (1977–82) and served on the board of directors of the Tennessee School Boards Association (1970–80). He received the Cope Outstanding Teaching Award in the College of Education in 1983 and 1984 and the Tunstall Outstanding Professor Award in 1984. His intellectual contributions to the life of the university have been recognized by placement of a plaque in his honor on a faculty study.
