The Beta Lambda Chapter of Delta Zeta was established at UT in 1933 when members of Alpha Theta local sorority were taken into Delta Zeta to form a chapter at UT. The sorority went inactive and then reorganized on campus in 1984. Delta Zeta was founded in 1902 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
The sorority colors are rose and green, derived from its flower, the Pink Killarney Rose. The sorority emblem is the Roman lamp, and the official jewel is the diamond. Notable alumnae of the national organization include Ivy Baker Priest, United States (and California state) treasurer; Margaret Edsel Fitch, UN consultant in home economics programs throughout the world; Brigadier General Barbara Campbell Fast; Judge Yvonne Kauger, chief justice of the Oklahoma Supreme Court; Florence Henderson, actress on The Brady Bunch and spokesperson for the hearing impaired; and Violet Henson Anderson, watercolor artist and poet. On campus the sorority is noted for its International Tea, the selection (1990) of Fraternity Man of the Year, and sponsoring turtle races to raise money for their philanthropic activities.
The architectural firm for the $3,950,000 Delta Zeta house in Sorority Village was Studio Four Design. The contractor was Merit Construction.
