On April 11, 1931, Omicron Chapter of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity replaced the local Chi Beta Phi Fraternity. Delta Sigma Phi was founded at City College of New York in 1899 by a group of undergraduates composed of both Christians and Jews. By their charter they admitted undergraduate men to the fraternity “without respect to race or creed.” The Omicron Chapter name originally belonged to the chapter at Cumberland University, which became dormant in 1918 when its entire membership virtually withdrew from college to enter World War I. The UT chapter’s most famous party was the annual Sailors’ Ball. The fraternity was no longer active after 1959.
