De’Hashia Tonnek “DeeDee” Trotter is a three-time Olympian and a women’s NCAA champion in the 400 meters, competing at UT in 2002 and 2003. She was the first UT female athlete to pursue a professional track-and-field career before completing her eligibility. She won a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics as a member of the 4 x 400 meters relay, and ran in the 400 meters race in the 2008 Olympics but failed to qualify for the finals because of a major knee injury. In 2012 she wore a glitter-and-paint design on her face, which she called “war paint,” as she made the Olympic Team by placing second in the 400-meter finals. She is the founder of Test Me I’m Clean, a charity dedicated to combating the abuse of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs.
