David Blumberg attended UT on a combined academic and football scholarship and graduated in Liberal Arts in 1933. A highly successful insurance executive, he held a variety of civic leadership positions in the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, and on the Public Library Board. He was elected to City Council in 1966 and served for five years. He headed the B’nai B’rith Youth Commission from 1959 to 1965. In 1971 he was elected international president of B’nai B’rith, the first unopposed candidate since 1925. He was also president of the National Association of Underwriters.
He received many awards, among them the National Conference of Christians and Jews Brotherhood Award and the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award.
