Two UT alumni have been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Army Second Lieutenant Allen J. Greer was awarded the medal on March 10, 1902, for valor on July 2, 1901, during the Philippine Insurrection. US Navy Hospital corpsman David Robert Ray was awarded the medal posthumously for valor on March 19, 1969, in the Quang Nam Province, Republic of Vietnam.
