A program was implemented in late spring 1984 through which microcomputers could be purchased at substantial discounts and paid for through interest-free loans by faculty and staff. UT negotiated with hardware manufacturers for discounted prices on machines (not individual computer parts), and the discount was passed along in full to the faculty or staff member ordering the product. Faculty and staff paid over a 12-month period through payroll deduction.
