Coffee Cup

When administrators began moving into Andy Holt Tower in 1973—a building designed to have a cafeteria but lacking one due to the economic necessity of cutting two stories from the structure to come within the budget—a small food facility was opened on the first floor of the Student Services Building to serve employees in both Student Services and the Andy Holt Tower. The facility was called the Coffee Cup and featured coffee, baked goods from the UT bakery, packaged sandwiches and hotdogs (called “death dogs” by many who consumed them), and a microwave oven to heat sandwiches and hotdogs. In 1989 Food Services determined that the new cafeteria that would open in Thompson-Boling would adequately serve the need for a food service facility for all Circle Park structures. However, the Coffee Cup remained until June 1993 when it was closed, and the Financial Aid Office expanded into its former space.
