Chief Information Officer

President John Petersen responded to long-standing complaints by the Faculty Senate and the general UT Knoxville community about the insufficiency and instability of the computer infrastructure by creating the position of vice president and chief information officer in March 2008. He named Dr. Jesse Poore, former head of the Computer Science Department and a Distinguished Scientist in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, to the limited-duration position. Poore was to correct the IT issues on campus, after which a CIO would be named, and Poore would remain as vice president of IT. Executive Vice President David Milhorn announced in March 2009 that Scott Studham, CIO at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for four years, had been appointed UT CIO.
