Cherokee Farm Dairy Barn

Dairy research was moved from the present site of the agriculture campus to Cherokee Farm in 1935. A new dairy barn, viewed as a national example of use of electricity in such structures, was built on the Cherokee Farm in 1936. The same year a second barn was built on Cherokee Farm, as well as a complete poultry unit and a central hog house.

The prime milking herd of one hundred Holsteins occupying a portion of the Cherokee Farm when control of the land changed from the Institute of Agriculture to the UT system was relocated to the Middle Tennessee Research and Education Center near Spring Hill in 2008. The barns were demolished in 2009.
