Professor Charles Graves earned the BS in agricultural education and the MS in agronomy from UT in 1958 and 1959, respectively. He joined the Agronomy Department (later, Plant and Soil Sciences) in 1959 and retired in 1999. Graves conducted the field crop variety evaluation program for UT for 39 years. Annually, during his tenure as head of the field crop evaluation program, more than ten thousand copies of Graves’ bulletin, Performance of Field Crop Varieties, were distributed. He authored more than two hundred publications. Progressive Farmer magazine recognized him as their 1996 man of the year. In 1995 he was the first recipient of the Tennessee Agricultural Experiment Station Research Impact Award. The Tennessee Agricultural Production Association named him Outstanding Individual.
