At various times, but especially following the fire which destroyed the YMCA Building, UT had plans for a chapel on campus that would serve all denominational organizations and coordinating groups. In 1960 President Emeritus Hoskins made an appeal for contributions to build such an edifice, but the $1 million required was not reached. A chapel had long been a goal of Ralph Frost, then the general secretary of the University Christian Associations, who echoed the appeal.
