The UT Chamber of Commerce became an organization within the School of Commerce on November 8, 1923, with adoption of by-laws and election of a president. The purpose of the chamber, organized with the help of Professor Theodore Glocker, was “to create a more loyal spirit within the School of Commerce and The University of Tennessee; to cause its members to feel a more cooperative spirit in their study of the commercial world and the handling of contingent problems; to give publicity to the department of Commerce both inside and outside The University, and to give the students of Commerce a broader outlook and a bigger grasp on the commercial world when they have finished their work on the Hill.”
