In 2007 UT brought together the expertise of more than 40 faculty members to focus on the problems of obesity by creating a new center within the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences. The center was charged to coordinate research on genetic and environmental factors causing obesity, develop plans for long-term prevention and treatment of obesity, and to disseminate the research findings to the general public. The UT Office of Research; the UT Agricultural Experiment Station (now AgResearch); UT Agricultural Extension Service (now UT Extension); and the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences funded the center.
